A LATE night attack on several cars in Wimborne has left victims "furious" as they are left to clear up and pay for the damage.

Residents who live on Chichester Walk, Merley in Wimborne woke up on Saturday morning to find several vehicles on their road vandalised after a "mindless" attack by "six young lads" on Friday, October 14.

Resident Matthew Bakewell was "furious" when he discovered his car windows had been smashed.

Matthew said: "I went out in the morning to change the child seat from my car into my wife's car and found my wife's car smashed up.

"Nothing was taken out of the car or any of my neighbour's cars, it was just completely mindless vandalism.

"I was completely gutted, it's my wife's car that I carry the kids in.

"They had been walking the estate, one of the neighbours has a ring doorbell and picked it up but it wasn't very clear, it just showed six young lads doing it.

Bournemouth Echo:

"I wasn't able to make out any faces but I would put them between the ages of 14-16 years.

"I'm pretty furious that people think they can just do that to people's stuff."

Dorset Police who have been made aware of the incident have acknowledged it is "extremely frustrating" for victims.

A spokesperson from Dorset Police said: "Dorset Police received one report via email in the morning of Saturday, October 15 that one vehicle had been damaged in Chichester Walk, Poole.

"The crime was not in progress when it was reported and officers will be assessing what lines of enquiries are available.

Bournemouth Echo:

"Dorset Police takes vehicle crime seriously and will take all proportionate lines of enquiry to investigate reported incidents.

"We understand that all vehicle crime is extremely frustrating for a motorist and we would encourage everyone to report all incidents to us.

"Should the force become aware of a spate of vehicle crime in a particular part of the county, officers from the local neighbourhood policing team will be assigned to the area to carry out reassurance visits.

"They will also be looking for any opportunity to identify individuals involved through finding footage from home CCTV cameras and asking for witnesses."
