A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of drugs and weapon offences after being stopped by officers in Bournemouth.

At around 3.20pm on Friday, October 14, officers from the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Neighbourhood Enforcement Team (NET) were conducting proactive patrols in the Lower Gardens when they witnessed a man who they believed to be dealing drugs.

Officers approached the man and he was detained for a search. He was reportedly found to be in possession of more than 70 tablets, believed to be a class A drug, and suspected cannabis as well as cash.

It was further reported that a large hunting knife was found in the man’s waistband.

The 19-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of possessing class A and B drugs with intent to supply as well as possessing a knife or bladed article in a public place.

He has been released on police bail as further enquiries are carried out.

Sergeant Cameron Thompson, of the BCP NET, said: “As part of Operation Viper officers from the NET regularly carry out proactive patrols aimed at disrupting the activities of those suspected to be involved in the supply of illegal drugs.

“We are committed to taking positive action to target areas of concern in our local community and ensuring weapons and illegal drugs are taken off our streets.

“We would urge anyone with information relating to suspected drug related activity in their area to please report it to us online at www.dorset.police.uk/contact or by calling 101. If a crime is in progress, please dial 999.”
