A wonderful old photo from the Daily Echo archives shows visitors to Brownsea Island in 1972.
The picture shows people queuing to board the launch deck to the ferry which would take them over to the island.
The wooden pier was by the Studland chain link ferry at Sandbanks with the Haven Hotel visible in the background.
This photo was taken only nine years after the island was opened to the public in May 1963 by Lady Baden-Powell, the Chief Guide, at a ceremony on the Island.
Soon after Brownsea Island was opened to the public and is still one of Poole's most popular tourist destinations.
