The outrageous Freddie Starr opened Hospital Gala '87 at Poole Stadium to fits of laughter from the crowd.
The madcap comic cracked jokes and clowned around on August 5, 1987, as he provided the proceedings with his own brand of humour.
Freddie crowned Debbie Barton as Gala Queen, placing a sash around the then-31-year-old nurse.
He told the crowd: "The reason you're all here is not to enjoy yourselves, but to raise money for Poole Hospital and children! Please give generously."
Then-mayor of Poole, Cllr Randolph Meech, also gave a welcoming speech before Freddie declared the gala open.
The event boasted numerous arena attractions and all the fun of the fair.
The Kosmos Klown Kompany and Country and Morris dancing were among the offerings, and Bournemouth Majorettes put on a spectacular parade.
