AN INQUEST into the death of a woman who was killed by a police officer who had been his long-term lover will not be resumed.

Nurse Claire Elizabeth Parry, aged 41, died on Sunday, May 10, 2020, after being rushed to Royal Bournemouth Hospital from the Horns Inn pub car park in West Parley the previous day.

Timothy Brehmer, 43 and of Hordle, was found not guilty of her murder following a trial at Salisbury Crown Court five months after the incident, having previously admitted causing Mrs Parry’s death.

Senior coroner for Dorset Rachael Griffin presided over a brief hearing at Bournemouth Town Hall on Wednesday, October 12.

She said the inquest into Mrs Parry’s death had been suspended in May 2020 awaiting the outcome of the criminal investigation.

Mrs Griffin said following the conclusion of that investigation and other reviews, which were not specified, and at the wishes of Mrs Parry’s family, she had concluded there was no reason to resume the inquest.

The coroner formally ruled that the inquest would not be resumed.

The crown court trial heard Mrs Parry suffered fractures to her neck and lost consciousness at the hands of Brehmer. She went into cardiac arrest and eventually died.

Brehmer, a Dorset Police officer at the time of Mrs Parry’s death, was found unanimously not guilty of murder by an 11-person jury.

Judge Mr Justice Richard Jacobs sentenced the defendant to 10 years and six months’ imprisonment for manslaughter.

However, following a challenge by the Attorney General’s Office, Court of Appeal judges increased the sentence to 13 years and six months.
