MULTIPLE firefighters tackled a barn fire in Dorset last night into the morning – with even a hedgehog being rescued.

Crews from across east Dorset were called to a farm in Thornicombe, near Blandford to put out a fire in a barn.

Dorset and Wiltshire received a report of a fire at 9.10pm on Monday, October 10. Crews from Blandford attended along with a crew from Sturminster Newton, Poole, Wimborne, Verwood and Sherborne.

The Verwood team, who were there as relief crew, even managed to rescue a hedgehog from the fire.

In a social media post, Verwood Fire Station said: “Verwood and Sherborne appliances were sent as relief crews to a barn fire at Thornicombe near Blandford this morning.

“This allows crews that have been in attendance to get back to station after approximately four or five hours on scene.

“This morning we’ve managed to ensure some wildlife is safe from the fire.”

The final crew left the scene left at 7.25 this morning on Tuesday, October 11, where the scene was handed over to the farmer.
