WE HAVE recently had Brexit, Covid, then the ‘consequences’ of the war in Ukraine.

The first (Brexit) was voted for by a majority of the population, so there was some kind of consensus. The second and third we have/had no control over.

Between them they have seriously dented the economy of several leading economies in the world. Unfortunately all the politicians in the UK seem to be interested in is insulting each other and playing a blame game on every aspect.

Why not get all the elected, cross party, great political thinkers and form something akin to a war cabinet. As what we are up against is something very similar to an all-out war on our economy and way of life.

Which unfortunately has been brought on by a man intent on getting what he wants or ruining the world for all. And on the same side as Mr Putin is a virus that has only one aim in life – to multiply. No particular UK politician/person is responsible. So why all the finger pointing? Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I was walking through the central square in Bournemouth on the weekend before Her Majesty’s funeral.

There was a trade union stall and they were shouting out derogatory terms about the current government – how it was robbing the country blind by giving all the profits to shareholders making them into fat cats. Hold on a minute. Do the unions not invest some of their money and pension funds in stocks and shares? They, their union, their pension funds and their strike fund could be part of the fat cats brigade.

What do the unions want? To become even larger alleged ‘fat cats’ who are also asking for 10 or maybe 15 per cent pay rises – and to get what they want the country is held to ransom.

I do understand sometimes why there has to be strikes. But at this particular time, in this current economic climate, all it seems to be doing is sabotaging any attempt to get the country back on an even keel.
