AN ESTABLISHED strip club in Bournemouth has become the latest to attract objections to having its licence reviewed.

For Your Eyes Only (FYEO) will see its renewal of a sexual entertainment venue licence bid go before BCP Council’s licensing sub-committee on Wednesday, October 12.

As reported, both Wiggle in Old Christchurch Road and Club Temptation in Yelverton Road overcame objections earlier this year to secure licence renewals from the local authority.

Licence holder Hampshire Restaurants Ltd has sought to address concerns raised by objectors to the FYEO application ahead of tomorrow’s meeting.

One of the objections, which have been kept anonymous, says that the area around the lap dancing club “has changed substantially and continues to do so”.

They reference the amount of student accommodation in the area, new restaurants arriving, the state of the buildings signage and the opening of Livingstone Academy school in Stafford Road – a short walk from the club.

The lengthy second objection raises similar concerns including over whether the window display was appropriate. They also raised issues over the “suitability” of the applicant.

They made reference to an incident at FYEO in Southampton, which led to the venue having to temporarily close several years ago.

However, the club in the Hampshire city has still been licensed since this incident and the applicant said lessons had been learned.

Hampshire Restaurants Ltd has held the licence and lease for FYEO in Old Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, since 2015.

“It will be noted that fundamentally the same team that has successfully controlled this site for many years continues to operate FYEO, and that there are no objections from, or indications of complaints to, the authorities in respect of this operation since its last renewal,” a statement on behalf of the applicant said.

The statement said the strip club was FYEO’s second in the country and the first of its nature on the south coast when it opened in the late 20th, with the site previously operating as a nightclub.

The director of FYEO has been in the trade for “several decades” including at the Southampton venue where there was an “unfortunate incident” involving the taking of card payments.

“Responsible operators are always willing to learn, and card payments at FYEO Bournemouth are only capable of being accepted by trusted employees in an area covered by CCTV,” the statement said.

“Southampton City Council has praised the site for being very well run following that incident, and the SEV (sexual entertainment venue) has been renewed each subsequent year.

“FYEO has continued to show a willingness to consider criticism, and whilst the silhouette in the window display complained of has been there for many years without complaint, it is accepted that it no longer fits with the company ethos, and it will be removed.”
