A man has been airlifted to hospital from Durdle Door after suffering "severe leg injuries".

Emergency services were called at 8.45am on Saturday morning to reports of an injured base jumper at Swyre Head.

An air ambulance landed at Scratchy Bottom shortly before 9am whilst teams from Lulworth Coastguard Rescue Team and Kimmeridge arrived to assist a paramedic from the ambulance service.

Weymouth RNLI's in-shore lifeboat and Lee-on-Solent's coastguard rescue helicopter were also called to the incident.

The casualty was treated at  the scene before being stretchered to the air ambulance. He was then transported to Southampton General Hospital with severe leg injuries.

A spokesperson for Lulworth Coastguard Rescue Team said: "The team arrived at Durdle in time to assist a SWASFT paramedic in locating the casualty, carrying rescue and medical equipment to the scene, a 10 minute walk along the beach.

"An air ambulance also alerted to the incident landed on the beach at Scratchy Bottom and were with the casualty when we arrived."
