A PUBLIC exhibition will be held for a major development in Christchurch town centre.

Christchurch Retirement Living will unveil its plans for the former gas works site in Bridge Street.

Members of the public are invited to view the plans on Friday, October 7, at The King’s Arms Hotel in Castle Street between 1pm and 7pm.

A second viewing will take place at the hotel on Saturday, October 8, between 9am and 12pm.

As previously reported by the Daily Echo in March, developers unveiled a £30million plan to build 170 homes on the site.

Ringwood-based developer Churchill Retirement Living, which has already acquired the Bridge Street site, wants to provide a mixture of retirement living, open market homes suitable for first time buyers and affordable housing.

Speaking earlier this year, Spencer McCarthy, Churchill’s chairman and chief executive, said: “This is a very different approach for Churchill and one of our most ambitious and exciting redevelopment projects to date.”

Churchill said it anticipated construction would start in late 2023, with the first homes being available for occupation in mid-2025.

People will also be able to see the proposals online and give their views at https://consultwithyou.co.uk/crl/christchurch between October 8 and 22.
