Officers attended with the ambulance and fire services and the road was closed to allow them to safely deal with the incident.

It reopened at around 7.30pm.

Police have now issued an appeal for witnesses to contact them as part of their enquiries.

Police Constable Adam Carr, of the traffic unit, said: “I am appealing to anyone who was travelling in the area and witnessed the incident, or the moments leading up to it, to please come forward.

“I would also urge any motorists who have relevant dashcam footage that may help my enquiries to please come forward.

“Finally, I am keen to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place. These were absolutely necessary to allow us to treat the injured person.”
