A MAN has appeared in court over begging in the street in Bournemouth.

Alex Carl Constantine, 39, was issued with a postal requisition in relation to events on the evening of Thursday, August 25.

Police said officers reported a man for begging in Seamoor Road, Westbourne, at around 9.20pm.

Constantine, whose address was given as Suffolk Road, Bournemouth, appeared in the dock at Poole Magistrates’ Court on September 29.

The defendant pleaded guilty to a single charge of placing himself in a public place to beg or gather alms, which is an offence under the Vagrancy Act 1824.

Constantine was discharged conditionally for six months. He was also ordered to pay a £26 surcharge.
