A MOTORCYCLIST was taken to hospital following a crash which a main road closed for several hours.

Dorset Police received a report at 3.42pm on Monday, October 3, of a crash involving a van and a motorbike on the B3078 Cranborne Road near Horton.

Officers attended with the fire and ambulance services and the road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident.

A Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 3.44pm yesterday to attend a road traffic collision on Cranborne Road, Horton involving a motorbike and a van.

“A crew from Cranborne attended and found the motorbike well alight; the fire was extinguished using one hose reel jet. Firefighters also provided casualty care to the bike rider ahead of the ambulance service arriving on scene. Our stop was at 4.35pm.”

The rider of the motorbike was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment, while the driver of the van was uninjured.

The road reopened at around 7.30pm.
