A COMMUNITY hub has been launched to help the mental wellbeing of residents amid pressing financial issues.

Gateway Church in Poole have recently opened a community hub, known as ‘Gatehouse’, at their Ashley Road home.

The hub aims to be a place for people to enjoy free tea, coffee and cake, complimentary Wi-Fi, make friends, attend free groups or courses, and to be in a warm, safe space with other people.

Richard Stamp, one of the church leaders said: “Loneliness and isolation is epidemic in our society and has real, measurable impacts on people’s health and wellbeing. Add to this the current cost of living crisis, and pressures on household energy bills, you’ve got a recipe for disaster unless churches and other organisations step up to do their bit to help.

“Gatehouse provides a place for friendship, community cohesion, interest groups and importantly, heating and refreshments – all for free.”

The hub is run by staff and volunteers of Gateway Church at 502 Ashley Road, and is open to the public between 10am to 1pm on Thursdays and Fridays during the school term.

Gatehouse also runs a variety of groups and courses. Visit gatewaychurch.me/gatehouse for more information.
