THERE’S nothing nicer than spending an hour or two in the pub over the weekend.

And Poole boasts some cracking watering holes.

If you needed an excuse to visit one of them today (and escape those chores), here are the top five pubs to head to according Google reviews.

All the pubs below have ratings of 4.5 stars and above. 

The Foundry Arms

With 4.6 stars and a whopping 591 reviews, The Foundry Arms in Lagland Street takes the top spot.

There’s a “legendary” Sunday lunch menu with beef, chicken, pork or gammon on offer served with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, fresh vegetables and “lashings” of homemade gravy.

There’s also the choice of two roast meats or lamb shank.  

Plus, don’t miss the Sunday 'card bingo'.  

One happy customer said: "Always amazing food, quality, quantity, price and service."

While another person said: "Nice little boozer, cosy, Cracking pint of ale, and a decent selection of beers."

The Bermuda Triangle 

Situated in the heart of Ashley Cross, The Bermuda Triangle has previously appeared in CAMRA'S Good Pub Guide. 

Established in 1870, the pub's website says it is a "refuge for the seekers of fine conversation and an array of ever-changing, lip-smacking real ales."

What more could you want? 

Well, there's a brunch menu featuring breakfast baps to smoothie bowls and a selection of imaginatively-named toasties including the 'Tina Turner' (tuna, mayo, cheese and onion) and The Fawlty (pesto, mozzarella, tomato and basil).

One Google review reads: "Great bar - Fine selection of real ales and ciders, good place good music."

Rope & Anchor

Located in Sarum Street, the Rope & Anchor describes itself as "a contemporary bar with a relaxed, informal atmosphere, a small, snug but special welcoming meeting place to enjoy a glass or two in good company or sit by the fire with a mug of coffee and relax."

This Wadworth pub says it serves simple but "up-to-the-minute sharing dishes with lots of comfort appeal".

Plus, you'll find books to browse through, newspapers on the bar and board games "just right to while away those cold winter days".

It has a staggering 591 Google reviews and a rating of 4.5 stars.  

The Portsmouth Hoy

Historic waterside pub The Portsmouth Hoy is situated on Poole Quay and has an "historic galleon", dark wood interior, oak beams and exposed timber floorboards.

Part of the Hall & Woodhouse chain, it's dog friendly and serves Sunday roasts, too. 

One reviewer said: "Great service friendly staff food perfect atmosphere decor."

Another person said: "Excellent pub, good value tasty food, great place to catch some live music too."

It comes widely praised on Google with a 4.5 star rating and 500 reviews. 

The Angel

The Angel in Market Street claims to serve "the best pizza in Poole". 

A huge pizza menu is available between 12pm and 8pm Wednesday to Sunday, and options include 'The Big Cheesy' with blue cheese, goats’ cheese, buffalo and grated mozzarella and 'The Devil' featuring American sausage, spicy pepperoni, caramelised onions, mozzarella and jalapenos.

Pizzas are made using freshly handmade dough and a "secret recipe" sauce. 

To drink, you'll find a selection of wines, spirits, cask ales and lagers.

The Angel says it offers a "friendly, welcoming atmosphere for all" and "great service that makes you want to return".

One Google review reads: "Friendly staff, great pizzas and a cosy and comfortable pub atmosphere."

The Angel has a 4.5 star rating and 264 Google reviews.
