A MAN has received a prison sentence for punching a dog in the head.

Craig David Brock was charged in relation to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.

The offence took place in Wimborne Road, Bournemouth, on February 18 and involved him punching the dog in the head twice.

Brock, aged 31 and whose address was given in court as HMP Bullingdon, appeared by live link for the Poole Magistrates’ Court hearing on September 27.

He pleaded guilty to the single charge and was sentenced on the same day.

Bournemouth Echo:

Deputy District Judge Jodie Mittell committed the defendant to prison for eight weeks.

Court papers stated the offence was so serious because it involved “appalling behaviour” towards an animal, which saw Brock “deliberately put himself in position to cause suffering”.

The offender was also required to pay a £128 surcharge.
