A NEW pathology lab at Royal Bournemouth Hospital is making "fantastic progress" as work begins on the inside of the building.

The Pathology Laboratory project at Royal Bournemouth Hospital £12.7m facility is making visible progress.

Located on the Wessex Fields site next to the hospital, it is designed for fast, accurate, routine and specialist testing.

It will support hospitals across the region to improve diagnostics for patients and help to meet the growing demand for specialist treatment and care - as well as providing development opportunities for staff.

The building's main contractor Amiri Construction have made a number of developments in the past few months.

On the first floor, high specificational floor screed has been laid for the Histopathology Lab area. Due to the nature of the work carried out within the lab a high-performance resin floor is required.

The huge air handling units and ducting are currently being installed in the plant room. Elsewhere in the building, the ground floor slab is complete.

Dry lining is well underway on the first floor and SFS is at an advanced stage on the ground floor.

The ground floor trenches for the cabling, data and medical bases are currently wooden shuttered, but will eventually have a modular access system to allow for the flexible configuration of the workstation layout.

The foundation and substructure for the store building are also in place.

The new facility is 'on track' to be completed in spring 2023, with the building fully commissioned during the summer of 2023.
