AN upmarket pub aiming to go ‘above and beyond’ for its customers - The Libertine is Pub of the Week.

Found in the heart of Westbourne, The Libertine is a stylish and contemporary gastropub known for its charcoal-oven steaks and wood-fired pizzas.

According to general manager, Alice Gregory, The Libertine is made special by the people involved in it. She said: “It’s our team, our regulars, the people that visit. Everyone says it’s like a family.”

Alice joined The Libertine in 2017, beginning as deputy manager but moving up to general manager in July 2020 when the pub re-opened after lockdown.

She works along a team of hard-working staff, who continue to welcome in handfuls of visitors and regulars alike.

Alice said: “The team are really lovely. They’re all welcoming. There’s no clique behaviour that happens in some bars.

“They’re so diverse which means they all have their own little ways of being, and that works really well between them all. And the regulars are so lovely.”

The Libertine is known for its upmarket style of service and strives to be ‘excellent in everything’ they do.

Although this is carried throughout the whole pub, the premises is split into two areas, with one boasting a more fine-dining experience, and the other a more relaxed pub environment.

Alice said: “We go for full table service. Everything from our kitchen is all prepared and cooked on site.

“We want to make sure that the level of service we give meets the expectations of guests.”

Visitors can choose between an extensive menu, with the pub’s steaks and pizzas being a popular choice for many diners.

Alice said: “We have a few pub classics- we’ve got a pie, fish and chips, and burgers, but we also specialise in steaks. Our 28-day aged steaks are all cooked in house.

"They’re brilliant.

“We’ve got our own pizza oven. They’re all stone cooked and hand stretched.

Bournemouth Echo:

"Families enjoy coming in and bringing their toddlers up to see them made.

"Our pizzas are always popular.”

The Libertine is found at 1 Alumhurst Rd in Westbourne.
