AN ARSONIST has avoided an immediate prison sentence after causing £1,500 of damage to a shop front in Bournemouth town centre.
Jordao Frietas, aged 56 and of no fixed abode, committed arson and damaged the premises at 37A Old Christchurch Road by fire on June 30 last year.
Frietas pleaded guilty to the offence at a hearing in August and he was in the dock at Poole Magistrates’ Court for sentencing on September 16.
The defendant was committed to prison for 16 weeks, suspended for 12 months.
The order included a requirement to carry out 12 days of rehabilitation activity.
Frietas must pay £100 compensation to Abbey Commercial Ltd for the damage caused by the fire.
