MOREBUS had to stop services yet again on Monday evening after "selfish individuals" throw stones at a bus travelling through a Poole estate.

The number 8 and 9 services, which run through Turlin Moor estate, had to be suspended on the evening of Monday, September 26.

Youths are believed to have thrown objects at the buses, but no passengers or the driver was injured.

Richard Wade, Morebus general manager, said: “Once again, we were forced to suspend services in the Turlin Moor estate yesterday evening.

“This followed further attacks by youths, who threw objects at our buses. Thankfully, nobody was injured.

“We take the safety of our passengers and drivers very seriously. It is sad that, due to the actions of a minority of selfish individuals, we are so often faced with a choice between safety and providing a reliable and convenient bus service to our customers in this area.”

It is not the first time Morebus has had to halt their services because of teenagers throwing items at buses.

Services through Arne Avenue and Herbert Avenue in Poole have had to be suspended multiple times because of youths throwing objects, including pellets from catapults, at windows and smashing them.

Services in West Howe have also come under attack in recent months, as have two services at the same time in Ringwood Road earlier this month.

As reported, Dorset Police has spoken to children as young as 12 in Rossmore Estate due to the recent spate of vandalism.

“Pausing services is a difficult decision for our team to make, but we will not put those who are travelling with us in harm’s way,” Andrew added.

“We are continuing to work with the police to tackle this issue, and to identify those responsible. We will, without hesitation, support the prosecution of those who are found to be responsible.

“In the meantime, we would like to thank local people for their support, patience and understanding.”

A Dorset Police spokeswoman said: "We received a report at 9pm on Monday, September 26 of young people throwing stones at buses in Turlin Road in Poole. Nobody was injured and the buses were not damaged.

"Officers are carrying out enquiries and will be checking CCTV in the local area to identify those responsible.

"We are maintaining regular communication with the bus company and patrols will be stepped up in the area in response to this behaviour."
