The expanded Home Bargains store in Christchurch will open next month.

The bigger store at Barrack Road retail park will open its doors on October 8.

At the weekend, staff were seen inside the store putting up shelving units and preparing for the big day.

Signs have been erected outside calling for people to apply for jobs on offer as well.

The shop has doubled in size, taking on the empty Harveys furniture store which was next door.

A planning application to allow the move last year said the scheme would “secure the long-term occupation” of the vacant unit while also allowing it to expand its product range.

According to the planning application, the expanded Home Bargains store will provide 70 jobs and work to create it would cost about £850,000.

It added that a wide product range was “essential” for making the shop financially viable.

“The proposals will secure the long-term occupation of [the unit] and will allow Home Bargains to upsize into an amalgamated adjoining vacant unit,” said a statement submitted with the application by consultancy Montagu Evans.

“The proposed amalgamation of the units will allow Home Bargains to implement its full business model,” it added. “The proposal will result in an increase depth within the existing product ranges.”

The store is due to open on Saturday October 8.

Home Bargains, which has more than 540 UK stores employing more than 25,000 staff, is said to be one of the fastest growing discount retailers in the UK.
