Police investigating reports of boats being boarded and 'interfered with' in Weymouth Harbour have identified a suspect.

The update has come from Dorset Police's Marine Engagement Team whose officers have been in Weymouth and Portland this week.

A spokesman for the team said: "We are working with partners at Weymouth harbour office and Portland Port Police to discuss issues affecting members of the marine community. Following on from reports of vessels being boarded and interfered with in Weymouth, a suspect has been identified and enquiries are ongoing."

The team also met with management from landowners the National Trust this week "to discuss initiatives in reporting suspicious incidents along the coastline".

Officers will be looking to support the landowner further focusing on preventing anti-social behaviour on some Dorset beaches.

The team spokesman said: "We will continue to carry out patrols and try and prevent crime and disorder in your area. Please continue to report crimes to Dorset Police – 999 in an emergency or email 101@dorset.pnn.police.uk for a crime no longer in progress.

"t is vital that we understand where crime and anti-social behaviour is taking place so that we know how to allocate resources. Please ensure that your belongings are locked, marked, photographed and you have a record of serial numbers."
