A FIRE came inches away from a railway track before being quickly extinguished by emergency crews near Wareham.
At 1.45pm on Thursday, September 22, Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to a blaze on the railway embankment near Furzebrook Bridge in Stoborough.
Crews from Wareham with one fire engine and a Unimog were sent to the incident and on arrival found an area of fire measuring approximately 30m x 10m involving the trackside verge/bushes.
Beaters and hose reel jets were rapidly deployed to extinguish the blaze before it could reach the main track. The stop message came at 2.06pm, with firefighters remaining on scene until just before 2:30pm.
