AN ELDERLY man who was riding a mobility scooter when he was involved in a crash near Gillingham has been seriously injured.

Dorset Police was called at 11.12am on Wednesday, September 21, to a report of a collision involving a Land Rover Defender and a mobility scooter on the B3081 near West Bourton.

Emergency services, including a police, fire, ambulance crews and an air ambulance all attended the incident yesterday.

The male rider of the mobility scooter - described as elderly - was taken to hospital by the ambulance service for treatment to serious injuries.

The Land Rover driver was uninjured.

Road closures were in place to allow emergency services to safely treat the injured man and carry out an examination of the scene.

Officers investigating the collision are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

Police Sergeant Sarah Jones, of the traffic unit, said: “An investigation is underway to establish what happened and I would ask any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please come forward.

“I am also keen to hear from any motorists who may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage.

“Finally, I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place.”
