One person is in hospital after a serious crash between a car and a mobility scooter.

The crash took place shortly before 11am this morning on the B3081 between West Bourton and Cocklington.

The key road in north Dorset has remained closed in both directions since.

Emergency services, including a police, fire, ambulance crews and an air ambulance have all attended the incident.

One person has been taken to Salisbury District hospital as a result of the crash.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 10.58hrs to a road traffic incident in the general area of Gillingham.

"We sent two double-crewed land ambulances and an air ambulance. We conveyed one patient to Salisbury District Hospital.”

Police first received reports of the crash at 11.12am and officers went to assist colleagues from the fire and ambulance service: as well as to close the road.

Crews from both Gillingham and Wincanton Fire Station attended the crash.

At its peak heavy traffic was being reported from West Bourton towards Gillingham though no major delays were experienced.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We were called at 11.12am on Wednesday 21 September 2022 to a report of a collision involving a car and a mobility scooter on the B3081 near Gillingham.

"Officers are in attendance with the fire and ambulance services. The road is currently closed."

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to the B3081 West  Bourton Road in Gillingham at 11.15am following a collision between a car and a mobility scooter.

"Two crews attended, from Gillingham and Wincanton, and firefighters helped with casualty care for the two people involved prior to the arrival of the ambulance service. Our stop was at 12.27pm."
