NO arrests have been made after a woman was sexually assaulted by a man who claimed to be an Uber driver in Bournemouth.

The 19-year-old woman was reportedly locked in a car by a man who claimed to be driver for the transport firm in the early hours of Sunday, September 11.

The male driver approached the victim in a red hatchback when she was sitting on the steps outside the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) in Exeter Road at around 2am.

The woman questioned whether the driver was a genuine Uber driver, but when the man insisted he was, she then got in the vehicle.

The driver then locked the doors and touched the victim inappropriately. She asked him to provide identification, which he was unable to do.

He eventually drove her home, driving towards Bournemouth Pier, onto Lansdowne Roundabout before heading to Cemetery Junction.

The offender is described as Indian and aged in his mid-20s.

Following the incident, police released images of a car as part of their investigation which remains ongoing. 

As previously reported by the Daily Echo, BCP Council confirmed Uber does not have a licence to operate from Bournemouth.
