PLANS have been unveiled for two new flat blocks at sites currently occupied by a nursing home and neighbouring bungalow.

Separate applications by Ashdrew Ltd propose the demolition of the current Hillsdon Nursing Home in Springfield Road, Poole, as well as a next-door property for them to replaced by blocks of 12 and 10 flats respectively.

According to Darryl Howells Planning Consultancy in the detached bungalow proposal, the care home redevelopment are “likely to be approved”.

They said: “The positioning of the flatted development is in a highly sustainable location.

“The design of the proposed flats shall be innovative and will be of high quality that will positively support the evolving character of the area, including that of the proposed scheme currently under consideration for no. 37 Springfield Road – which according to the same applicant is likely to be approved by the Local Planning Authority in the coming weeks.”

Springfield Road is a mixed character residential area, with properties ranging in size and scale from small bungalows, to detached houses and flat blocks.

However, some residents have expressed concern over the proposals to demolish the care home property. One woman said: “Having known a number of former residents of the nursing home I also feel strongly that, in light of our ageing population, this would be a loss to the local community.”

Both applications are available to view on the BCP Council online planning portal.
