A SHOCKED schoolboy needed hospital treatment following a knife attack in broad daylight in the Iford area of Bournemouth.

Violence flared near the Iford roundabout just before 4pm on Wednesday.

Details of the assault have just been released by Dorset police.

A local resident raised the alarm and alerted emergency services after the 15-year-old was assaulted near a telephone kiosk.

The victim, who has not been identified, was taken to the Royal Bournemouth hospital by ambulance.

A police spokesman said the youth had been discharged a short time later after receiving stitches for a minor puncture wound.

Police officers searched the surrounding area for clues but there was no trace of the offender or weapon used during the attack. The knife has still not been found.

The spokesman added: "Officers suspect that the victim knows his assailant. A suspect has been identified and enquiries into the circumstances are continuing. No arrests have yet been made.

"It is believed that several other youngsters were at the scene when the incident took place and saw what happened."

The officer in the case; DC James Taylor of Bournemouth CID is appealing for witnesses to get in touch and help with their enquiries.
