ANYONE with a pair of ears should know there's a helluva lot more to Gnarls Barkley than funky party tunes and filmic fancy dress outfits - well over two million people bought the first album, St Elsewhere, which, as much as it could kick start a carousal, also provided a platform for some serious (psychedelic) soul searching from lyricist, rapper Cee-Lo.
And the cathartic theme continues on The Odd Couple. While lead single, Run, is a classic Danger Mouse-driven broken beat Motown junco partner, Would Be Killer contemplates the path Cee-Lo was well down before music saved his life.
The trip-hop invocation, Who's Gonna Save My Soul? casts him as a lost soul learning to stand tall, while the coy optimism of A Little Better lets the light back in.
