HAVING delivered three generally well-received albums that failed to make much of an impact beyond the critics and insiders, Lowgold are to be applauded for sticking to their guns and simply getting better at what they do. Namely, expansive mood-rock on an increasingly grander scale. There's something almost meteorological about the way singer Darren Ford's voice builds to an emotional downpour on tracks like the opening Clear, the edgy Don't Let Love In and the note of rage that underpins Dead Sea.
In a sane world, insipid panderers to the lowest common denominator like Snow Patrol and their irksome ilk would beg the crumbs from Lowgold's table, but since when has this been a sane world? Nothing Stays The Same adds some fierce guitar to the mix.
