A BOURNEMOUTH man has organised an all-day music event at Chaplin’s in Boscombe in aid of homeless charity Shelter.

Ski Hart organised the event in memory of Ralph Millward, a Big Issue seller who was killed in Westbourne in 2009.

The charity benefit will take place on Saturday, September 17, from 12pm-3am.

There will be a raffle, snacks and drinks at the event, with afternoon and evening performances.

Artists are set to include Bournemouth Music Club (a youth project that encourages young people to perform and organise events), Lloyd Mcguigan, Basic Blues Jones and afternoon headliners Deadwax Graffiti.

In the evening there will be performances from Surfin Dave, Marco Di Geanto, The Secret Spot Surf Band, Raygo Bloom and evening headliners The Surfin'Birds.

Ski Hart said: “I wanted to support an agency working to help prevent people from being made homeless in the first place and then support them when they were.

“I'm lucky I've never been homeless really, I've sofa surfed for a while, but never had to live that life and I don't envy it.

“The big thing for me was when a guy called Ralph Millward, a well known and liked Big Issue seller, was kicked to death for a packet of cigarettes at the end of my road.

“His story struck a chord, his passing was so horrible and the reasons why he was there, kind of unknown.

“That was 13 years ago. I've wanted to do something and this year I've given myself enough space and time to do it.”

The event is open to members of the public, entry is a £5 voluntary donation.

Raffle prizes have been donated by Absolute Music, Chaplin's and the Cellar Bar, Vinilo Records, Shaka Surf Bournemouth, DRGNFLY, The Rustic Stomp Festival, The Poole Harbour Festival and the bands that are providing merch.
