Most public services will be suspended on the day of the Queen's funeral.
Dorset Council has advised residents of the services that will be affected on Monday September 19 which will be a bank holiday as Her Majesty's state funeral takes place in Westminster Abbey.
Bin collections
There will be no kerbside bin collections of any kind on the day.
If your bins are usually emptied on a Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday, residents have been told to put their waste out as normal.
If your bins/bags/boxes are usually collected on a Monday, note the following:
Rubbish and recycling: Workers will endeavour to empty these on Saturday, September 24 - do not put your rubbish or recycling bin out until Friday night.
Food waste bins: These will be emptied on the next collection day (Monday, September 26). If you need to dispose of your food waste before this time, take it to a household recycling centre from Tuesday, September 20.
Garden waste: The council hopes to catch-up with these collections from Tuesday, Septmber 20, so leave your bin out until it is emptied.
Household recycling centres
Weymouth Household Recycling Centre (HRC, or “the tip”) will be closed on Sunday, September 18 for the Ironman event, with access to Dorchester HRC potentially disrupted too. All Dorset Council HRCs will be closed all day on Monday, September 19.
Customer Services – Dorset Direct Dorset Direct, will be closed for general enquiries on Monday, September 19. In an emergency call 01305 221000 (24 hours a day).
Libraries and books of condolence
Libraries will be closed on Monday, September 19.
• Books of condolence will remain open at Dorset libraries this week under normal opening hours
- A book of condolence is also available at Dorset Council County Hall during normal office hours
- Books of condolence will reopen on Tuesday, September 20 in libraries and County Hall
Country Parks
All country parks will be accessible to the public. However, on site concessions such as visitor centres, cafés, and other leisure facilities will be closed.
The car park at Moors Valley will also be closed.
Leisure Centres
Closed sites include:
- Purbeck Leisure Centre
- Queen Elizabeth Leisure Centre
- Verwood Hub
- Potterne Park
- Emmanuel Sports Hall
Blandford Leisure Centre, Weymouth Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre, Ferndown Leisure Centre, and Dorchester Sports Centre, which are managed on the council’s behalf by leisure operators, will also be closed.
Registration Services
Registration Offices and the Crematorium will be closed on Monday, September 19 except for services that are already booked. The Book of Remembrance Room will be open, but there is no book for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Outdoor Education Centres
All centres closed on Monday, September 19.
