A FIGHT believed to involve knives broke out in Bournemouth town centre, with a man being chased by a group of people and suffering injuries. 

The Arcade between Old Christchurch Road and Gervis Place was cordoned off yesterday as police and forensics examine the scene of the incident. 

Police say the victim of the fight, first reported at 6.12pm on Monday, September 12, has not been identified. 

A police helicopter was deployed to assist officers searching the area.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “Dorset Police received a report at 6.12pm on Monday, September 12, of a man with injuries in Gervis Place in Bournemouth.  

“It was reported that the man was being chased by a group of people 

“Officers attended and carried out a search of the area, assisted by the NPAS helicopter. 

“Following enquiries, it is believed a fight occurred in The Arcade a short time earlier.

“Enquiries are underway led by detectives to locate the victim and identify those involved. A cordon is in place to allow for an examination of the scene.” 

The Arcade in Gervis Place has remained closed throughout the day as South West Forensics examines the scene of the incident. 

Small yellow evidence cones were placed on the floor. 

The incident has gained a lot of interest from shoppers, as people crowd around the closed gates and police tape to get a closer look at the incident.

Detective Inspector Ian Allen, of Bournemouth CID, said: “We believe that knives were used during the incident and it is vitally important that we locate the victim to ensure he is safe and well.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed what happened, or knows the identity of those involved, to please come forward.

“I understand there were a number of people around at the time of the incident and I would urge them to please get in touch as they may have important information to help my enquiries.”

One shopworker in Space NK has reported footfall has been down throughout the morning as the main entrance is closed.
