WORK has stopped on a Bournemouth building site where a care home is being replaced by a four-storey block of council flats.
BCP Council contracted the work at the Templeman House site in East Howe to firm W Stirland.
The former care home building in Leedam Road has been flattened but construction off the new housing has not got off the ground yet.
At present the site has been locked shut and secured after work on site came to a halt.
A BCP Spokesperson said: "We are committed to delivering the Templeman House project, which will provide homes for local people seeking affordable housing.
“We continue to discuss the scheme with W Stirland.
“No matter the outcome of these discussions, BCP Council and the project itself is protected financially by the strong checks and balances put in place on all our contracted schemes.
“Work so far has transformed a site which was no longer fit for purpose. The Templeman House project remains a key part of our drive to provide this much-needed housing across the BCP area.”
The Daily Echo contacted W Stirland for comment. The Chichester-based business said enquiries relating to Templeman House should be made to BCP Council.
The scheme, which is part of the local authority’s council newbuild housing and acquisition strategy (CNHAS), will see 16 one-bed and 11 two-bed flats delivered, along with car parking and electric vehicle charging points.
The project was due to be raised for social renters on the housing register from spring next year.
