A CARE home in Bournemouth has closed after an inspection into its services rated it ‘inadequate’.

Regulator Care Quality Commission (CQC) published a report into St Bridget’s Residential Home in Stirling Road, Winton in late August and found the care home to be ‘inadequate’ - the lowest ranking they can give.

However, since the damning report, the owners of the home were forced to close the business on August 25 as “insurance won’t cover them anymore”.

The eight-bedroom property is now on the market for £1.3million.

In the report, inspectors found people were “not supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives”.

People were also “not supported in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service did not support this practice.”

The previous rating given to the care home after an inspection in 2021 shows St Bridget’s Residential Home is in a worse state than it was before.

Inspectors noted in their report that they carried out the inspection due to concerns they had received regarding record keeping of people’s care needs, medicine management, social engagement and governance.

Looking into the safety of the residents, inspectors found two people with unexplained bruises, but they found no evidence that people had come to harm.

Another issue noted was regarding a lack of staff to meet people’s needs. The report said: “We observed nice interactions from staff as they passed by but staff delivering meals to people in their rooms did not have time to sit with the person to chat with as they ate.

“We spoke with the person who told us, ‘yes I enjoy speaking with people but there are not many people to speak too here.’”

Not all of the nine residents present had access to a call bell and, although staff said the person would not understand how to use the call bell, there was no indication that staff kept regular checks on the resident.

A BCP Council spokesperson said all residents of St Bridget’s Residential Home have been relocated to another home in the BCP area and that they were all cared for.
