THE mayor of Netanya, the Israeli town with which Bournemouth is twinned, has sent her condolences on behalf of the country’s citizens following the death of the Queen.

In a letter to mayor of Bournemouth Cllr Bob Lawton, Mayor Miriam Fierberg-ikar of Netanya said: “Great grief has come upon the world and the British nation in particular when the sad news was announced – The Queen has passed away.

“For most people in the world – the Queen has been present all their lives as she was granted with a long and meaningful life.

“Her Majesty will be remembered by millions of people due to her human activities, her calmness, wise advice and mainly her presence and everlasting endurance in bad times as well as good times.

“On behalf of all citizens of Netanya I convey my deep condolences to the British people and wishing King Charles the Third long years of monarchy in peace and quiet.”

Mayor Bob Lawton thanked Miriam for her “lovely letter” and hoped the two towns will further build on their “strong friendship and ties”.

Netanya is a Mediterranean resort city in central Israel and, like Bournemouth, is known for its sandy beaches.

The two towns have been twinned since 1995.
