A SECTION of road in Poole is set to close over the weekend to complete the construction of a new shared walking and cycle path.

Phase three out of four for the Gravel Hill to Bear Cross Roundabout project is set to conclude this month and will see the introduction of several new improvements to the roads around Canford Magna.

A section of Queen Anne Drive/Magna Road will close from Merley Lane to just west of the Hamworthy Club, between 7am on Saturday, September 10 and 6am on Monday, September 12.

Arrowsmith Road and Canford Magna junctions will also be closed during these times.

Following the completion of phases one and two in nearby roads the Merley Lane to Canford Magna phase, which began in early July, will see when complete:

  • New shared walking/cycling path on the north side of Queen Anne Drive between Merley Lane and Canford Magna
  • New toucan crossings and traffic signals at the Canford Magna junction with Queen Anne Drive/Magna Road
  • Refurbished and improved bus stops with raised access

Phase four will focus on the roads between Knighton Lane to Bear Cross Roundabout and is targeted for completion early next year.

Plans for these works were informed by responses gathered during public engagement late 2020 and formal consultation which ran from May 10 to June 14 last year.
