A BOURNEMOUTH man has walked 133 miles from Winchester to Canterbury to raise money for charities close to his heart.

Matthew Betts, 42, from Bournemouth, walked for seven days starting at Winchester and then finishing at Canterbury, raising over £1,000.

For four different charities, Matthew successfully achieved the enormous challenge of raising the most money he could.

The charities he walked for were Alzheimer's Society in memory of his nan and Pancreatic Cancer UK in memory of Kevin Alban, his former boss who died of pancreatic cancer last year.

He was also raising money for Unicef and Tsavo Trust, both chosen by his daughters.

Matthew said: “It was a really tough walk, especially on the hot days, but I appreciate the support from my friends and family.

"I walked the old pilgrimage route that was walked by many people in medieval times and then after it was rediscovered in the 20th century by Hilaire Belloc and other writers.

"I was joined at different times by my family and friends, which really helped me to complete it”.
