JAIDON Anthony came off the bench to net a remarkable winner as Cherries picked themselves up off the canvas to seal a memorable 3-2 win at Nottingham Forest.

Cheikhou Kouyate powered home a header to open the scoring for the hosts, before a converted penalty from Brennan Johnson made it two before the break.

But Philip Billing’s sublime effort put Cherries back in contention shortly after the interval and Dominic Solanke’s special bicycle kick restored parity.

On came Anthony, who tapped home Solanke’s centre to seal all three points for interim boss Gary O’Neil’s men.

Cherries named an unchanged starting XI for the trip to Forest, with new recruit Jack Stephens, a deadline day loan addition from Southampton, among the substitutes.

Forest themselves, who signed no fewer than 21 players during the summer transfer window, named Cherries legend Steve Cook back in their side.

England international Jesse Lingard also returned with Remo Freuler and Lewis O'Brien dropping to the bench.

Former Manchester United man Lingard almost carved out an opening for the hosts with just five minutes played. Drifting in off the left, his chipped through ball found the run of Johnson, who saw his fierce strike charged down.

The hosts were in control of the majority of the opening 20 minutes. After Morgan Gibbs-White’s corner was half-cleared to the edge of the box, Wales international Neco Williams’s effort from 25 yards soared over the bar.

Cherries’ first real opening came with a counter-attack just before the half-hour mark. Marcus Tavernier found Billing, who returned the ball back to the former Middlesbrough man inside the area.

But having gathered the pass behind him, Tavernier’s strike was charged down to safety.

It was Forest who took the lead via a set-piece on 34 minutes. Gibbs-White’s inswinging corner was met by a leaping Kouyate, who powered home a header to send the hosts in front – his first goal for the Tricky Trees.

And Forest found themselves two ahead just before the interval. Lloyd Kelly was judged to have handled in the box after blocking Williams’s volley.

After a lengthy VAR check for an offside in the build-up, as well as the handball itself, referee Michael Oliver consulted the pitchside monitor but still gave the spot-kick.

Up stepped Johnson to fire home past Neto from 12 yards.

Cherries replaced Jordan Zemura with Ryan Fredericks at the interval, with Adam Smith playing as a third centre-back.

Forest continued to threaten, however. Lingard tried his luck from range with an effort which Neto had to deal with.

The Dorset club then somehow found a way back into the game out of nothing.

After picking up a pass from Lewis Cook six minutes into the second half, Denmark international Billing rifled a left-foot piledriver into the top corner past keeper Dean Henderson for 2-1.

And Cherries were not done there as they found a remarkable leveller just past the hour mark.

Tavernier’s corner was headed back into a dangerous area by Kelly. There was Solanke, who produced a moment of magic with an outstanding bicycle kick to put the game level with his 50th goal for the club.

Cherries could have even had a third shortly after. Tavernier’s cutback found Ryan Christie inside the box – his attempt flew just over the bar in front of the away support.

But Cherries were to get their third three minutes from time. After Solanke outmuscled Scott McKenna on the left – he squared for Anthony to fire home the decisive blow.
