A NEW pizzeria could be set to open in Bournemouth town centre.

Details have been revealed for the proposals for the former Patisserie Valerie site in Post Office Road.

A restauranteur has submitted planning and licensing applications to BCP Council.

Meanwhile, a sign has been placed on door of the premises, which reads: “Opening soon. Mamma Mia pizzeria ristorante. Wood fire oven.”

Bournemouth Echo:

Mohammed Daimallah has submitted a planning application for the change of use of the premises to a restaurant and takeaway and erection of an extraction flue.

A planning and heritage statement by Bournemouth-based HLF Planning said: “The application site is one of a number of vacant units within Post Office Road.

“Last in use as Patisserie Valerie the premises offered a variety of sweet cakes and hot beverages, which since 2020 has fallen within Use Class E.

“The premises are being taken over by a restauranteur seeking to primarily serve pizzas alongside a variety of Italian cuisine.”

It said the primary purpose of the restaurant is to serve food to customers by providing for around 20 covers inside and an additional 16 outside – subject to obtaining a tables and chairs licence applied for separately.

The statement said: “It could be possible that this remains an ancillary function to the main restaurant, but with the increased popularity of app-based delivery services it is hoped that a healthy business can be grown on takeaway services alongside restaurant covers.”

The site has been vacant for some time since the closure of the Patisserie Valerie cafe.

If approved, Mamma Mia restaurant would be open from 8am for breakfast to midnight throughout the week.

The statement said the takeaway use would give the business the flexibility to compete with other premises in the area.

A separate premises licence application from Mr Daimallah is seeking permission for the supply of alcohol from 11am to 11pm and late-night refreshment from 11pm to midnight.

The consultation on the licence application closes on September 6, while residents have until October 7 to comment on the planning application.
