THREE siblings aged approximately five to 13 years old found themselves in difficulty in a toy dinghy on Monday, August 29.

Club members at the Branksome Chine Surf Lifesaving Club (BCSLSC) responded to the incident as the children required assistance from the three-foot waves during the Bank Holiday Monday.

The team also responded to an incident when strong currents took bathers unaware, causing them to drift onto rock groynes.

Club members had recently undergone their annual lifeguard requalification assessment that morning so were “well-placed” to respond to a request for assistance from the RNLI lifeguard team.

BCSLSC lifeguard trainer Steve Wisdom, who was part of the team involved in the morning rescue, advised that easterly winds are forecast until the end of this week and urged bathers to exercise caution due to the swell and currents these conditions produce which can quickly cause people using inflatables or inexperienced sea swimmers to get into difficulty, particularly near groynes.

Branksome Chine Surf Lifesaving club recently hosted the Surf Lifesaving GB National Championships for Nippers (aged eight to 13), Youth (aged 13-19) and Masters (over 30s) with almost 1,000 lifesavers from across the UK competing at the week-long event.
