A LARGE bonfire near the A31 required an emergency service response after the blaze spread to trees, a hedge and undergrowth.

Firefighters rushed to the scene near Canford Bottom shortly before 12pm on Saturday, August 27.

A fire engine from Ferndown was first on the scene, with further assistance provided by a pump from a Wimborne and a water carrier from Ringwood.

A Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said the crews tackled a large bonfire containing logs and rubbish which had spread to its surroundings.

The fire was extinguished using main lines and agricultural machinery, with the stop message coming just after 1pm.
