THE GREAT Dorset Steam Fair is back after an absence of nearly two years with hundreds having already attended the popular event.
Following its Covid-enforced hiatus, the annual show featuring the pinnacle of steam-powered vehicles and machinery returned on Thursday (August 25) and will keep on rolling through to Bank Holiday Monday (August 29).
Steam Fair managing director Martin Oliver said: “I am thrilled that we are able to run the show again this year and judging by the huge amount of interest we have already received, over the past few months, I am confident that it will be a great success.
“We have all missed the Steam Fair massively these past two years and it will be wonderful to welcome everyone back to our Tarrant Hinton showground. There’s so much to see and do at the 600-acre site, that you’ll struggle to see and do everything in just one day.”
Highlights across the weekend will include the majestic Showmen’s Engines, steam tractors and lorries, and old school steam road rollers.
It’s not just about steam, either. The fair’s Heavy Horses are regarded as one of the most prestigious Heavy Horse displays in the country. More than 100 of them take part in displays, each day.
In the Working Area, you can see heavy horses working the land and using various farming implements from a bygone age before steam.
