A VERWOOD singer and a children’s choir have joined forces to raise awareness about ‘a major issue’.

John Biggs, 72, and a choir of 30 students have been working on a song titled 'Song for the World' in aid of global warming.

The song was released on August 22, nine months after John decided he wanted to raise awareness about the issue.

John said: “I’m an amateur singer-song writer but I’ve played a few bits here and there.

“Global warming is a major issue. I thought, someone’s got to do a song about it.”

John began to work on a piece, striving for impact through a series of meaningful and heartfelt lyrics.

It was a short while into the writing process that John approached Emmanuel School in Verwood to see if they’d like to get involved with the song.

He said: “When I was walking my dog one day, I thought this isn’t just about me, it’s the children it matters to. So, I approached the local school for a choir, and they said they’d be interested.

“The whole school got involved. Thirty 9-12 year olds and then a girl soloist - a nine year old who does a few of her own lines."

With the help of HP Studios in Ringwood, Song for the World was produced, and it wasn't long before the song was played on stations Hope Radio and Forest FM.

John added: “I want people to be able to listen to the lyrics, they’re very poignant.

“Its purpose is to make people aware of what is happening to our planet and our children's future.”

John wants the song's proceeds to go to causes fighting global warming, and has written to Sir David Attenborough to ask where the money would most be welcomed.

He said: “I want it all directed to global warming causes. I funded it all myself but I wont take anything out of it.

"I've written to David Attenborough. I got a hand written reply back from him, and he’s really interested in it."
