DEVELOPERS behind major plans for a Dorset village say they are meeting with local stakeholders to give them an opportunity to voice their opinions.

Dudsbury Homes revealed huge plans for 1,700 homes in Alderholt which would include new local shops and a second pub.

A public consultation was held detailing the plans, called Alderholt Meadows, and developers say they are now reviewing the feedback received.

A spokesperson for Dudsbury Homes said: “We received a good level of response to the consultation and we are currently in the process of reviewing the feedback submitted during this process.

“A wide range of comments have been raised within the feedback so far. Whilst we are continuing to review the feedback, we have produced an FAQ sheet in order to respond to some of the comments raised most frequently, providing respondents with some further information about the proposals.

“Following the consultation process, Dudsbury Homes are seeking to meet with key local stakeholders and local groups to provide them with an opportunity to voice their opinions regarding the proposed scheme, enabling the plans to positively evolve, as the proposals continue to develop.”

The FAQ page, detailing the infrastructure promised, said 35 per cent of housing would be affordable, there would be age-appropriate housing and a new care home adjacent to the new market centre.

Improvements would be made to St James’ School to include further school years and a new medical centre will be created.

A new, Monday to Saturday hourly bus service will travel between Cranborne, Alderholt, Fordingbridge and Ringwood and developers also promise full fibre connection for the entire development.

“Solar arrays” will provide locally sourced renewable energy and developers will also carry out improvement work on the A31 junction.

More than seven miles of new cycle routes is also promised.

Speaking of education, the website says: “We have held discussions with local education providers and listened to views form the community and we are committed to invest in the best possible education for children in Alderholt.

“It is recognised that it is not an ideal situation for children to be bussed to schools some distance from Alderholt. Therefore, a partnership with Burgate Secondary School makes sense and this continues to be developed.

“After exploring options for a new school as part of the development proposals, we understand that St James’ School wishes to instead invest in its current site.

“To do this in a meaningful way the school needs to ensure there is a viable future supply of pupils. The proposed Alderholt Meadows development will provide this security and Dudsbury Homes will be legally committed to facilitate and fully fund all expansion requirements.”

The spokesperson encouraged more people to get in touch with their views at alderholtmeadows@devcomms.co.uk.
