FLYTIPPING in a well-known urban hotspot is 'getting worse' with calls for more to be done to crackdown on the issue.

Churchill Gardens in Boscombe has seen multiple incidents of fly-tipping over the past few months, and now a resident and ward councillor have spoken out once again as they say the issue has continued to get worse.

Councillor for Boscombe West, Lewis Allison, said he has reported fly-tipping hundreds of times but the council ‘really isn’t doing enough’ to tackle it.

He said: “It’s certainly an ongoing issue, we’ve had a lot of meetings and I’ve reported fly tipping hundreds of times at this point especially around Churchill Gardens.

“We’ve had meetings with the council where we discussed all of the problems and the fact that it was getting worse, the fact that the communal bins were overflowing and that leads to fly tipping around them, and nothing has really happened since those meetings.

“It’s quite frustrating really because I spend a lot of time communicating with residents who are obviously very frustrated that the roads outside their houses are covered in fly tipping and litter.

Bournemouth Echo:

“In my view the council really isn't doing enough. The administration recently went out to tender with WISE an external company and to be honest I haven't seen any difference since that happened.

“It's been about eight months into that 12 month contract and I haven't really seen any improvement, in fact if anything it’s got worse.

“I’m continuing to push the council to do more, to offer alternatives for places for people to leave their bulky waste but up until this point there really hasn't been any significant improvement.”

The council recently announced it was introducing a new campaign to tackle fly tipping.

It said the council and WISE officers would be on the ground throughout the year engaging with residents to offer advice, support and, where appropriate, take enforcement action.

However, a Churchill Gardens resident says they have seen no difference.

He said: “It’s deteriorating quite rapidly at the moment, things are getting a lot worse. They did clear up for a while but we seem to be getting more and more of it and every time you speak to anyone at the council they’re just not interested you just hit a brick wall really.

“There was one fridge display cabinet left in the road for four weeks before they cleared it. I haven’t seen a WISE agent around here in a long time and I do keep an eye out for these things.

“There is plenty of rubbish dumped by the bins and in the bins by people coming into the area but it doesn’t seem to be being followed up at all.

“The council promised us new bins, we haven't had them, they told us they were going to put signage up and talked about CCTV but we’ve had none of this, I think they’re just pushing the problem down the road.”
