TWO traveller encampments have set up camp in Bournemouth and Poole.

Around six caravans and associated vehicles are currently situated at Littledown leisure centre.

BCP Council said: “Our staff are visiting site to carry out the statutory welfare and educational needs assessment, along with any necessary risk assessments in order to determine the level of support to be given to the group.

“Dorset Police have been notified and we are working with them on appropriate action.”

Meanwhile, another camp is currently in place at Whitecliff Rec car park.

BCP Council said it is carrying out assessments and liaising with Dorset Police.

The authority said: “We will be visiting, liaising with and monitoring the site going forward.”

A Dorset Police spokesperson said: "We received a report at 6pm on Tuesday 23 August 2022 of an unauthorised encampment at Whitecliff Recreation Ground in Poole.

"A further report was received at 8.19pm of another unauthorised encampment at the Littledown Leisure Centre in Bournemouth.

"Officers have attended both locations and are liaising with the local authority.

"We will continue to monitor the situation and will take any appropriate further action if required."
