ILLEGAL parking on Charminster Road is allegedly becoming "standard procedure" as residents warn the issue is "an accident waiting to happen".

Illegal parking on double yellow lines has reportedly become a frequent sight for people passing Charminster Road.

Businesses and locals are urging for action to stop the problem.

A worker from Charminster Dry Cleaners said: “It’s a huge issue and it has been for years.

"We have a car park and not only do people park in our car park to use other shops, but they will also block our customers in by parking on the double yellows.

“It’s really inconvenient, there are not enough parking spaces for people.”

Charminster resident, Pete Doorbar said: “The parking on this road is atrocious, it puts me off popping into Tesco on my way home from work because I know it will just be a nightmare to try and park.

"Nearly every time I pass someone is parked on double yellows. It seems to just be the standard procedure for people.

“It is dangerous because it means cars that are turning around the corner could crash into them. It really is an accident waiting to happen.

"Something needs to be done soon, there really should be better parking in place considering the number of shops and restaurants that are in the area."

A BCP Council spokesperson said: “Irresponsible parking does have an impact on our communities, residents, and businesses.

"Whilst we encourage people to visit and shop on our high streets, we ask car users parking in Charminster to be considerate to all when parking a vehicle.

“Our parking enforcement team carry out patrols on our streets as often as possible. They will issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCN) to vehicles that are parking illegally and in some instances tow vehicles away.”

“Anyone struggling to park legally while they shop could switch to make short journeys by bus, bicycle or perhaps try a Beryl bike or e-scooter instead.”

The council have advised anyone who sees a vehicle parking illegally and where parking restrictions apply to call 01202 128900, where they will endeavour to send a patrol to the area as quickly as possible or visit bcpcouncil.gov.uk/Parking/Report-an-illegally-parked-vehicle.asp
