On March 27 Starlight Express opened at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, London. The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical is the ninth-longest-running West End show and the most successful musical in Germany, where it has been performed in a purpose-built theatre since 1988.
Comedian Tommy Cooper collapsed and died on stage from a heart attack on television during the show Live from Her Majesty’s. The date was April 15 and he was 63 years of age.
Elton John played his famous Night and Day Concert at Wembley Stadium on June 30. The concert was broadcast live in full on BBC and was sold as two VHS tapes - The Afternoon Concert and The Night Time Concert.
