CONCERN has been raised for a missing parrot which flew away from a family home on Saturday night as hasn’t been seen since.
Rainy, a one-year-old African Grey Parrot, flew from its owner’s shoulder and into the night sky at around 7.30pm on August 20 in West Parley.
The parrot has lived with Vicky Legg and her family since it was four months old and is not used to being on its own.
Vicky told the Echo she believes Rainy could have flown into a nearby wooded area.
She said: “She has never been outside before so we’re just hopeful she’s hidden somewhere. It’s quite difficult because if you see her from afar she can look like a pigeon, but she makes unique sounds and has a red part of her tail.
“We have her cage outside and we hope she will come on her own, but we realise we may not get her back.”
Rainy makes several distinctive sounds and words which Vicky urged residents in and around West Parley to listen out for.
These are:
- “Rainy”
- “Alfie” – the name of one of Vicky’s children
- “Give us a kiss”
- “Pretty bird”
- A wolf whistle
- Squawking
The bird is almost completely grey but for some whiteness around its eyes, a black beak and feet, as well as the red part of its tail.
